An Evening With Billy Dixon

Billy Dixon provides a bespoke and confidential service for individuals and teams who want to improve their performance, and maximize their potential. Billy's talks are engaging, interactive and above all else, entertaining. He can help us to question how we view ourselves and others and what impact that has on our lives, while at the same time, making us laugh. 

Working globally, his clients include heads of state, corporations, national sports teams and members of the public.

Several universities are now using his principals on personal projection in their MBA business courses, and he is a regular contributor and advisor on television and radio.

Our Speakers

Our speakers come together as a  highly qualified and motivated represenation or podiatry, experts in their field with many years of experience in the industry, they have the expertise to provide comprehensive skills and knowledge we can all learn from. We are indebted to those who have goven their time to share that with us throughout our conference. 

Mr Trevor Prior

Consultant Podaitric Surgeon

Trevor qualified in 1983 and since that time he has worked in both the private and public sectors.  He obtained his  teaching qualifications in 1985 before obtaining a post-graduate degree in Podiatry in 1989 and  fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 1993 and in 1994. He currently a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at Homerton University Hospital.

Dr Ivan Bristow

Dermatology Podiatrist 

Ivan is a podiatrist with an expertise in dermatology. He initially spent 11 years working full time within the National Health Service as a podiatrist in which he established the UK’s first dedicated foot clinic in a dermatology department which he ran for ten years. He then he completed his Masters Degree at the University of Oxford and his PhD at the university of Southampton. Ivan currently holds private clinics in Hampshire whilst continuing to work on various dermatology-related projects in education and research. He currently holds adjunct academic positions at UK & Australian Universities

Dr Joanne Hurst

Podiatry Lecturer 

Joanne is an academic Podiatrist, with a recent lecturing role within the discipline of Podiatric Medicine, University of Galway. Joanne has a research interest in the prevention of diabetes-related foot disease (including foot ulceration, lower extremity amputation and subsequent mortality), with a particular focus on health inequalities, and the influence of environmental exposures mainly, social deprivation. Her work has been predominantly based within the health administrative area of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. She now hopes to investigate this from a West of Ireland perspective.

Dr Naseer Ahmad

Vascular Surgeon

Naseer is a vascular surgeon based at Manchester University Foundation Trust.  He performs the full range of vascular procedures including carotid, aneurysm and venous surgery but specialises in complex lower limb surgery that prevents an amputation.  He is the Clinical Director of both the Manchester Amputation Reduction Strategy (The MARS Project) and the Greater Manchester & East Cheshire Aneurysm Screening Programme and the Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer of his hospital.

Ellen Kirwin

Podiatrist

Ellen Kirwan is a graduate of the University of Galway. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Podiatric Medicine with First Class Honours in 2021. Her academic journey continued with the successful completion of a Master of Philosophy in 2022, with a research focus on screening for atrial fibrillation and mild cognitive impairment. Ellen has gained valuable experience in both private practice and research. Currently, she is working as a Research Assistant at the University of Galway.

Stephen Lines

Podiatric Surgeon

Stephen Lines is a Specialist Surgical Podiatrist in the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol. He commenced training within the AOC in 1995 and he has been a full time member of this unit since 2002. Stephen specialises in complex primary and revision forefoot and midfoot pathologies. He teaches trainee Orthopaedic surgeons, Podiatry and Medical students.

Claire Dobie

Podiatrist 

Claire  is  a Queens University graduate and extended scope practicioner specialising MSK conditions. Having been instrumental in the development of NHS orthopaedic triage service, before moving into private practice, Claire has gain a wealth of skill in a massive variety of podiatry aspects including ultrasound imaging. 
 

Declan Doherty 

Podiatric Surgeon

Declan graduated from Ulster University with BSc (Hons) Podiatry in 2014. He started working in private practice and developed an interest in podiatric surgery. He graduated from University of Huddersfield with MSc Theory in Podiatric Surgery in 2019. During his MSc studies, he worked as a Staff Podiatrist at Ilkeston Community Hospital. Later in 2019, he gained a post as a Trainee in Podiatric Surgery at Buxton Hospital under the tutorship of Mr Frank Webb. He recently achieved a Distinction in the Master of Podiatric Surgery course and achieved his Fellowship of Podiatric Surgery. Declan is a Visiting Lecturer to the University of Galway and Ulster University. Declan’s main interests include the high-risk foot, surgical offloading, and non-medical prescribing. He is keen to promote podiatric surgery and to develop further podiatric surgery services especially in Northern Ireland. 

Kelly Mcmenamin

Clinical Dietitian

Kelly is a clinical dietitian and sports nutritionist, graduating with a BSc in dietetics in 2017 and in 2021 with PGDip in Sports and exercise nutrition. Working in both the clinical and private sector, this has brought Kelly a wealth of experience in helping to treat patients in wound healing, and also helping healthy active individuals to reach their full potential in their sports.

Damian Murray

Podiatrist and Business Mentor

Damian is the commercial director of the Foot Medic group of clinics spanning all regions of the UK. He has over 20 years of experience, not only as a clinician himself but in the business of providing services to the industry ranging from instruments to clinical waste. Damian holds valuable insight to the multiple aspects of running successful healthcare businesses. 

Claire O Kane

Consultant Podiatric Surgeon

Claire qualified as a Podiatric Surgeon in April 2000 and took up a specialist registrar post in Ilkeston Hospital, Derbyshire, England where she was appointed a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon in Oct 2003.

In March 2007 Claire began working privately in Hillsborough Private Clinic in Co. Down where she continues to work.

Claire has published papers on the surgical correction of Hallux Valgus, the long term outcome of hammer toe correction, fusion of the 2nd metatarsal cuneiform joint, the results of amputations of the 2nd toe and also on the surgical management of central metatarsalgia.

Claire is an independent prescriber and lectures on the use of corticosteroid injections to Podiatrists and oversees their mentorship.

Tim Kilmartin

Consultant Podiatric Surgeon

Tim has been an NHS Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at Ilkeston Hospital since 1994 but also works in private practice at Hillsborough Private Clinic and Kingsbridge Belfast and North West. He has performed over 18,000 foot operations. He has used the opportunity to review his surgical outcomes where ever possible and has published over 90 articles in national and international peer reviewed journals. A former Dean of Faculty. Tim completed a PhD on juvenile hallux valgus in 1994. He was the first Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery of the Royal College of Podiatrists, London. Tim likes to skulk around seedy bars and dress up like James Joyce at the weekend. 

Zoe Wilson

Podiatrist

Zoe is passionate about developing a fully privatised foot and ankle service for all lower limb needs. She completed my MSc in Theory of Podiatric Surgery in 2019 and have successfully completed my passport to surgical training in 2018. Having enjoyed being an active member of a surgical team during my MSc programme in order to develop her theoretical knowledge whilst applying this to a practical surgical setting.

Ciaran Canney

Podiatrist and Business Mentor

As the lead podiatrist and the clinical director of Foot Medic Group network, a multi award winning private health provider, with branches across the uk and our expanding network of partnerships, we help tens of thousands if patients navigate their foot and ankle pain challenges.

Ciaran is sometimes regarded as a positive disrupter determined to advance and change our profession by raising standards of care and business practices. 

Patrick McGill 

Podiatrist

Patrick was recently appointment as Lecturer of Podiatry with Ulster University combining his experience  of acting as Head of Podiatry Service in the Western Trust. Patrick is committed to lifelong learning and is a member of the vascular Specialist Advisory Group for the Royal college and a member of the Medicines Management Group also with the college. His clinical interests include vascular podiatry, wound care, and independent prescribing. He is an examiner for the College assisting PAP training and examination. Patrick is currently completing his MSc and intends to begin his PhD journey in September 2024.

Michael O Neill 

Podiatric Surgeon

Michael is widely considered a bookend of our profession. As a surgeon he has amassed considerable knowledge throughout his career treating many high profile clients over the years. Working in private practice has also armed Michael with the experience and knowledge of what it takes to make a success of a private podiatry practice. 

 

Emily Ball

Podiatrist and Leadership Mentor 

Emily is an international conference speaker and clinical trainer, sharing my knowledge and expertise with professionals around the world.

One aspect of her work that truly excites her is coaching and mentoring practice owners and executive health leaders. She believe in helping others build their own resilient and successful practices.

James Welch

Paediatric Podiatrist 

James graduated in 2001 with his BSc(Hons) Podiatry degree from University College London (UCL) and The London Foot Hospital. James has continued with further study and in 2018 completed his Masters degree in the Principles of Podiatric Surgery from the University of Brighton, with his dissertation focusing on the role of steroid injections for plantar fasciitis.

Sinead Flynn 

Podiatrist & PhD Researcher 

Sinead graduated with a degree in Podiatric Medicine from the University of Galway in June 2020, and was recipient of the Tomorrow’s Podiatry Student of the Year award. Since then she has immersed herself in the world of diabetic foot research by commencing her PhD studies in this area in September 2020. 

 

She received the prestigious Hardiman Research Scholarship from NUI Galway to pursue her PhD project and now works alongside the DFD PRIMO (Diabetic Foot Disease - from prevention to improved patient Outcomes) group. Her research aims to explore the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the care of active diabetic foot disease from both a patient and clinician perspective. 

Glenn Hinds

Motivation & Coaching Consultant 

Glenn Hinds is an accredited counsellor and independent training consultant trained in person centred and psychodynamic counselling, motivational interviewing and emotional intelligence (EQ).

Glenn worked as a drug therapist and senior social work practitioner in mental health and alcohol and drug services between 1990 and 2008, as well as offering 1-1 and group counselling to adult survivors of sexual abuse. He has been training multidisciplinary and multi-sector staff in Motivational Interviewing, Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Interventions and Understanding and Responding to Stress and Anxiety since 1997. He has completed training in Motivational Enhancement Therapy and has made a research visit to University of Texas, Houston to study Group Work Interventions using The Transtheoritical Model of Change and Motivational Interviewing. 

Stephanie Owen

Podiatrist - SO Podiatry

Since qualifying as a podiatrist in 1999 Stephanie has thrived in a profession she loves and is proud of. Every new challenge is conquered and expanded to create something new. She loves to grow and develop to ensure life is never dull and everyday is exciting. Always looking at the big picture she aims to ensure people appreciate and love their feet and engage with healthy patterns and lifestyles. 

She brings together people who are on similar journeys ensuring positive growth for all. She is passionate about always remembering that we work with people (who have feet).

Aengus Shanahan

Podiatrist - Foot Focus

In 2006, following the diagnosis of a brain tumour, Aengus successfully completed his Podiatry degree despite many obstacles. He was honoured to carry the Olympic flame around Edinburgh’s parliament for demonstrating courage in the face of adversity. 


That experience and everything that followed, helped shape his personal approach to healing and, more importantly, how healthcare could be delivered differently. He is passionate about sharing the message of hope to those who have yet to find it and is dedicated to help empower people to keep striving to learn, grow and heal.
